Sunlight in a Cafeteria - Edward Hopper

Rather than depict the world exactly as it appeared, Hopper froze a feeling or a state of mind. The cinematographic treatment of the scenes and the personal use of light are two differentiating features of his geometric painting and reasons why it was pivotal in helping me in my beginnings to understand how to use empty space to build tension in the composition of a frame. This was a skill I tried in projects like "En cada casa vacía", "Zembla", and "Cierre".
